               Nature of the Field Study

The BS Computer Science program includes the study of computing concepts and theories, algorithmic foundations and new developments in computing. The program prepares students to design and create algorithmically complex software and develop new and effective algorithms for solving computing problems.

The program also includes the study of the standards and practices in Software Engineering. It prepares students to acquire skills and disciplines required for designing, writing and modifying software components, modules and applications that comprise software solutions.

A Specialization in Data Analytics will further prepare students to be competent in uncovering patterns to extract valuable information to support organizations for efficient and informed decision making.

Analysis:

The enrolment data indicate that the program has maintained a relatively stable and generally increasing student population over the five-year period. Total enrolment rose from 254 to 294 students, despite fluctuations in individual year levels.

A particularly important observation is that upper-year enrolment has generally strengthened. Third-year enrolment increased from 42 to 72, while fourth-year enrolment increased from 72 to 75 over the period. This suggests that a substantial number of students are progressing through the program.

Analysis:

The data indicate a positive trend in student’s performance. The substantial growth in the number of Dean's Listers suggests that more students are attaining the academic requirements for recognition. Similarly, the increase in graduates with Latin honors, particularly in 2025–2026, indicates an increase in the number of students completing the program with outstanding academic performance.

Analysis:

The data show a generally positive enrolment continuity trend. After declining from 272 to 254 students in 2022–2023, the continuing-student population increased in each of the next three academic years, reaching 295 students in 2025–2026. It then remained almost unchanged at 294 students in 2026–2027.

The retention figures improved from 93.38% in 2022–2023 to above 100% in 2023–2024 and 2024–2025, before stabilizing at approximately 100% in the last two years. Overall, this suggests that the program has maintained a relatively stable student population with strong year-to-year continuity, particularly from 2023–2024 onward.

Analysis:

The cohort analysis shows that the BSCS program achieved an overall completion rate of 65.77% among the 2018–2022 cohorts, with 292 out of 444 students completing their academic requirements within the expected completion period. Completion rates varied across cohorts, declining from 69.33% in 2018 to 49.35% in 2020, before improving substantially to 73.03% in 2021 and 79.52% in 2022. The 2020 cohort recorded the lowest completion rate, while the 2022 cohort registered the highest. The improvement in completion rates among the 2021 and 2022 cohorts indicates enhanced student progression and completion during these periods. The 2023 cohort, with an expected completion year of 2027, is not yet included in the completion analysis because its students have not yet reached the expected completion period.

Analysis:

The graduation data from 2022 to 2026 demonstrate varying levels of cohort completion, with graduation rates ranging from 42.70% to 85.54%. The highest graduation rate was recorded in 2023 at 85.54%, followed by 2025 at 84.42% and 2026 at 81.48%. In contrast, the 2024 cohort recorded the lowest graduation rate at 42.70%. The substantial variation among cohorts highlights the importance of continuous monitoring of student progression, retention, and completion. The relatively high graduation rates observed in 2023, 2025, and 2026 indicate positive cohort completion performance, while the lower rate in 2024 warrants further examination to identify factors associated with delayed or non-completion.

Analysis:

From 2022–2023 to 2025–2026, the attrition rate declined by 27.68 percentage points. At the same time, the number of students leaving, transferring, or dropping decreased from 24 students to only 1 student.

This pattern indicates a substantial improvement in student persistence and continuity. It may reflect improvements in academic advising, student support, monitoring of at-risk students, faculty intervention, learning support, or other institutional measures. However, the table alone does not establish which specific interventions caused the improvement.
