NCAA, NISU CoEd collaborate in launching book Lemlunay
In collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCAA) and Northern Iloilo State University's (NISU) College of Education (CoEd), National Artist for Literature, Virgilio S. Almario launched his book “Lemlunay” at the NISU Gymnasium on November 15, 2024.
In an exclusive interview with Virgilio S. Almario also known as Rio Alma, he stated that the book Lemlunay is a concept of paradise inspired by the T’Boli tribe and how an individual defines their own paradise.
“Just like the T’Boli tribe, Lemlunay, wherever they are, is their paradise. If the place is ideal for them, then they call it their Lemlunay,” said Almario.
He also highlighted that Lemlunay is supposed to be the future place of the Filipino; it’s not the lost world, but a place that can be developed by the people.
Almario highlighted, “Whatever we achieve now, the progress that we can do for ourselves can really lead us to a brighter future, which is Lemlunay.
He also urged that the next generation should be educated, develop patriotism, know the past, and be proud of the Filipino culture.
“First of all, we have to develop your ideas. Help us build a stronger link to our past. It’s the only way we can learn our present and our future,” he underscored.
During the program, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Gilda E. Deguma, claimed that this event is timely as we celebrate the National Book Month this November.
“This event emphasizes the importance of reading good books among the young generations. To love and appreciate literary works as it is considered to be expressions of the reality of life and experience in various time and space,” said Dr. Deguma.
Furthermore, University President, Dr. Bobby D. Gerardo, expressed the importance of holding this event and how it will positively impact the readers and audience.
“Today as we launch his new book we are reminded with the immense legacy of Virgilio Almario not just a writer but also a guardian of Filipino heritage. His works continues to inspire and challenge us to think critically, to feel deeply and to understand the power of literature in shaping the future of our nation,” said Dr. Gerardo.
