NISU-Main tops Intercollegiate Fisheries quiz show

Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) Main Campus brought pride to Northern Iloilo after claiming the championship title in the 2025 Fisheries Intercollegiate Quiz Show at Casa Real de Iloilo, Iloilo City on October 2.
Representing the university were Gerson Berano, Aleanna Marie Pancho, and Tata Zamora, coached by Dr. Cheryl B. Jela. The trio showcased exceptional knowledge and teamwork across the Easy, Average, and Difficult rounds, securing the top spot among five participating teams.
Additionally, the team competed against the region’s leading fisheries institutions University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) and the Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFIST).
Meanwhile, UPV Team 1 and ISUFIST Team 1 followed as second and third placers, while UPV Team 2 and ISUFIST Team 2 completed the roster.

In an interview, team member Gerson Berano shared the team’s joy and sense of purpose behind their win.
“At first, we felt overwhelmed knowing we were up against the best fisheries institutions. But this win proves that with faith, teamwork, and positive thinking, we can stand strong alongside the best. This victory is not just ours, but for the entire NISU-CFAS community,” he said.
Furthermore, the event was organized with the assistance of the UP Fisheries Guild and the UPV Statistical Society, promoting academic camaraderie and the advancement of fisheries education in the region.
Moreover, the victory serves as a testament to NISU’s growing reputation as a center of excellence in fisheries and marine sciences.
