NISU partners with Fortinet to strengthen cybersecurity education

In today’s fast-revolving world, where almost everything we do is connected online, protecting digital spaces has become just as important as protecting our homes. Universities are no exception, they are not only centers of learning and innovation but also keepers of sensitive data belonging to students, teachers, and staff.
Recognizing this reality, Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) has taken a bold step by partnering with Fortinet, a global leader in cybersecurity solutions. This partnership was officially sealed during the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony held at the University's Research and Extension Office, marking a milestone in NISU’s journey toward strengthening cybersecurity education.
Following this, Dr. Gilda E. Deguma, Vice President for Academic Affairs of Northern Iloilo State University, delivered her welcome message. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to Fortinet Academy for entrusting NISU with this collaboration. Dr. Deguma looked forward to a journey of innovation and growth, where NISU and Fortinet will work hand in hand to equip students with world-class knowledge and skills in cybersecurity.
During the opening remarks, Bambi Escalante, Country Manager of Fortinet Philippines, highlighted how the rise of digitalization and digital transformation is reshaping industries, including education.

University President Dr. Bobby Gerardo emphasized that this partnership reflects the university’s vision of innovation and academic excellence. More importantly, it is about equipping students with the tools and knowledge they need to defend against threats in an increasingly digital society.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing was more than just a formal agreement, it was a celebration of collaboration, innovation, and responsibility. Fortinet, together with NISU and its partners, is showing that cybersecurity is not just a corporate agenda but a shared mission.
As the university continues to embrace digital transformation, this partnership ensures that its community is not left vulnerable. Instead, NISU is turning the challenge of cybersecurity into an opportunity, to lead, innovate, and to protect.
