𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐈𝐥𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐨 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐔), represented by University President Dr. Bobby D. Gerardo, formally signed a 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐌𝐎𝐀) with the 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐒𝐄𝐂), represented by Atty. Ma. Christina T. Montelibano, Director II, in a ceremonial event marking a significant step toward financial education and fraud prevention.

 

The partnership centers on the project “𝐒𝐄𝐂 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 (𝐒𝐄𝐂-𝐂𝐀𝐍!)”, a joint initiative designed to strengthen financial literacy and raise public awareness on investment scams. Under the agreement, NISU and SEC will organize regular consultations and dialogues to design, develop, and implement financial literacy programs and scam awareness campaigns.

 

Both institutions are committed to conducting joint programs, ground activities, and interventions that will equip Filipinos with the knowledge and skills to understand financial principles, responsible investment practices, and strategies for fraud prevention. The project also aims to amplify efforts in educating the public on investment scams and other fraudulent schemes, complementing the SEC’s enforcement programs and investor protection mandate.

 

 

Also present during the ceremonial signing were Dr. Noe D. Dasig Jr., Director of the Institutional Planning and Development Unit (IPDU) of NISU; Atty. Josefa Maria Castro-Alfabeto, Securities Counsel II, and Ms. Jola Lyn Tingson, SEC Information Officer II, joined in expressing support for the partnership.

 

 

Dr. Gerardo expressed his appreciation for the partnership in extending financial literacy education beyond the classroom, saying this will empower communities to make informed financial decisions and safeguard themselves against fraudulent activities.

 

Meanwhile, Atty. Montelibano highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts with academic institutions, noting that “the fight against investment fraud requires both education and enforcement, and this partnership ensures we are reaching this lively community in Northern Iloilo with the right knowledge and tools.”

 

 

The MOA signing signifies a proactive approach in addressing the growing threats of financial fraud, while fostering a culture of financial responsibility and vigilance among Filipinos.
