Region VI Makes History with 2nd Place Finish at NSCUAA 2025

For the first time in history, Region VI bagged second place in the recently concluded National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association held in Camiguin Island in Mindanao last April 23 - 27, 2025, since the establishment of the athletic association under the banner of the Philippines Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC).

The said event was attended by the different state colleges and universities across the Philippines, where Western Visayas emerged as the second top performing region with 158 medals--58 golds, 52 silvers and 48 bronzes.

Dr. Bobby D Gerardo, President of Northern Iloilo State University and the current Regional Chairperson of PASUC expressed his elation over this ground-breaking accomplishment. “This is the first time Region 6 won 2nd place in the national sports competition since the establishment of the association.”

He recognized the support and participation of the universities and colleges in Western Visayas as one of the factors for reaching the second most performing region.

Region 6 performed well in various events where several representing  SUCs were declared as champions while others got silver and bronze. “Overall, we top and lead with other SUCs comprising the different regions representing their respective localities competing in the NSCUAA 202,” he added.

With this achievement, Dr. Gerardo wanted to motivate everyone to do more in the next competition in 2027. He said that the support of the Regional Association of State Universities and Colleges (RASUC) VI to the various sports programs in the region is constant, especially in finding and developing talented students in Western Visayas, who have the potential to compete at the national or even in the international scene.

Dr. Gerardo announced, “This year, NISU (Northern Iloilo State University) will become the next host of the regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association  (RSCUAA) at NISU Sara Campus in the second week of December 2025.“  He also shared that after hosting the regional SCUAA this year, Region 6 will bid to host the National SCUAA in 2027.

In his closing message, Dr. Gerardo praised everyone who participated in the NSCUAA 2025, “I’d like to take this moment to extend my congratulations to all athletes, participants, and officials of the 12 state universities and colleges in Region 6 for a job well done during the NSCUAA 2025. More power to you!

Region 6 was represented by 12 state universities and colleges, including the University of the Philippines in the Visayas, constituting around 500 athletes who competed in basketball, archery, softball. Baseball, taekwondo, and other events.
