The Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) Blue Marlins Esports team etched their names in history by clinching silver medals in both the Mobile Legends men’s and women’s divisions during the Regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (RSCUAA) held at Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology, Poblacion Site, on December 18, 2024.

 

This year’s RSCUAA marked the debut of Esports, a groundbreaking addition that highlighted the evolution of athletic programs in the region and provided a platform for talented student-gamers to shine.

 

The Blue Marlins' men's team displayed outstanding harmony and strategy, battling through tough rounds to reach the finals before narrowly missing first place and securing the silver medal.

 

Jeff-T Fuentes, NISU Blue Marlins Mobile Legends team captain, expressed that despite falling short of the gold medal against Iloilo Science and Technology (ISAT) University this year, they will surely comeback stronger and win the gold next RSCUAA.

 

"We may have fallen short of the gold this year, but this is just the beginning, we’ll come back stronger and claim the championship next RSCUAA," said Fuentes after the grand finals. "We lacked consistency in some key moments, but we’ll work on that and come back more focused and ready to win next time," he added.

 

In the women's category, the Blue Marlins displayed resilience and determination, overcoming tough opponents to reach the finals and earning another silver medal for NISU after losing to Carlos Hilado Memorial State University in the final round.

 

"Though we fell short in the final round, our journey to the finals showed the strength and resilience of our team, and we’re proud to bring home another silver medal for NISU,” said Cindy Sarah Luminario, Blue Marlins esports women's team captain. "We have still time to make a comeback since all our players are third years and second years. We will definitely bring that gold home next time,” she added.

 

The success of the Blue Marlins Esports team at RSCUAA has not only brought pride to NISU but has also set the stage for future growth in the university’s Esports program.

 

“This achievement is a huge step forward for NISU Esports,” said Prof. Mark Anthony Lopez, one of the esports coaches. “Winning silver in both categories during Esports' first appearance at RSCUAA is something we’re incredibly proud of. It motivates us to aim even higher in the future,” he added.
